The courses provided by PTIFA offer a university-level education. We are proud to provide a very high level of clinical competency and proficiency, as well as complete practice and team integration. We are confident that no other provider matches our standard and caliber of education. The best way to get started is with the Level 1 course online (16 CE credits). Upon completing Level 1, we recommend you register for Level 2 in order to become a certified botulinum toxin provider.

At a minimum, you will need to successfully complete Level 1 online and Level 2 (Basic Botulinum Toxin). Upon completion of these two courses, you will be trained to use botulinum toxin to treat patients cosmetically in the upper face, as well as for bruxism. After you have completed Level 2, we recommend you attend Level 3 (Advanced Botulinum Toxin) which will train you to use botulinum toxin to treat patients cosmetically in the mid-face, lower-face, neck and also treat myofascial pain.

The cost for practitioners: Level 1 ($1,695), Level 2 ($3,400), Level 3 ($3,400).

The cost per team members for Level 2 ($799). Please note that team members can access the Level 1 online course for free through their practitioner’s log-in information. If they want CE credits, there is a charge of $199.

Yes, in order to successfully integrate treatment in your office, we recommend that you bring your entire team with you to the Level 2 course. At a minimum, you will need at least your top clinical team member to attend the team member training at the Level 2 course. More details here.

Team training is key to practice integration and your success. Our courses incorporate extensive team member training, as a combination of lecture and hands-on clinical experience. At the Level 2 course, team members attend a separate lecture from the practitioners on Day 1, and also receive hands-on clinical experience with practitioners on Day 2. We find that the practitioners who bring their teams are the ones who are most successful back in practice. PTIFA’s team training covers: treatment FAQ, reception details, photography for case acceptance, office requirements and set-up, reconstitution, ideal treatment sequence, billing, re-care appointments and marketing. Additionally, team members are provided with hands-on training in the Roberts Facial Rejuvenation Photography™ series – a system that helps you discover patient needs, and concerns, and also helps you achieve 99% case acceptance. More details here.

It is up to each participant to determine whether botulinum toxin and/or dermal fillers is in their scope of practice within their jurisdiction. View the registration requirements for Alberta dentists.

Our course content is thoughtfully created and presented and allows graduates to be successful in achieving predictable results with no side effects. To do this, there must be a well-grounded and balanced focus on the many aspects of treatment with botulinum toxin. To cover the topics required to be proficient in botulinum toxin, we offer a preliminary online course, a cadaver program, as well as two days of hands-on instruction. Both the topics of botulinum toxin and fillers require ample instruction and hands-on practice, and it is not possible to  offer both of these courses together. A good perspective is to ask yourself if you would want to take a veneer course, and an implant course on the same weekend.

In order for you to be successful, we require that all practitioners document the pre and post-treatment photographs for a minimum of 20 cases using the Roberts Facial Rejuvenation Photography™ series. You are required to complete 20 patient cases in between Level 2 and 3, as well as in between Level 3 and 4. This requirement ensures that you can demonstrate substantial experience and competency with each level of treatment.

It is up to each participant to determine which treatment options their jurisdiction permits them to provide. A minimum of completion of Level 2 is required in order to become a certified botulinum toxin provider for the upper face cosmetically and bruxism treatment, completion of Level 3 for botulinum toxin cosmetically in the mid-face and lower-face and neck region as well as for myofascial pain, completion of Level 4 for dermal fillers, and completion Level 5 for advanced non-surgical aesthetic procedures (lasers, IPL, dermabrasions, chemical peels and hair removal).

The Roberts Facial Rejuvenation Photography™ series is a sequence of 29 facial and intra-oral photographs that your team is trained to take during the Level 2 course. These photos allow you to document a patient in relaxed and activated/expression form and are taken at the time of consult, as well as at the follow-up appointment (“before and after” photographs). The series of photographs also helps you discover patient needs, concerns, and sensitivities. Yes! Patients appreciate having someone they are familiar with providing treatment. Yes! Botulinum toxin has been thoroughly researched (more than 4,000 studies) & clinically used for over 20 years and is approved by both the HPB (Health Protection Branch of Canada) and the FDA. More than 20 million procedures have been performed since 2001.

Botulinum toxin is a natural purified protein that is extracted from a bacteria and refined into a medicine. Similar to how penicillin is made. Botox^® is a medicine that has been safely used for many years. It is used on children as young as 2 years old to treat cerebral palsy. These young children receive up to 6 TIMES an average cosmetic dose & receive this treatment every 3-4 months.

Botulinum toxin targets dynamic wrinkles which are caused by repeated muscular contractions, such as frowning and squinting. Botox® is an injectable treatment derived from a purified protein. It works by relaxing the muscles that cause these dynamic wrinkles, giving the face a more relaxed and refreshed appearance.

Regular use of this simple treatment will soften expression lines and help to ‘stop the clock’ on the development of further deepening of lines. In addition, treatment is so quick and easy, that it can often be done at your patients’ regular hygiene maintenance visit.

On average, the cosmetic effects will gradually wear off after 3-4 months and the therapeutic effects will last 5-6 months.

Side effects are very rare and are not permanent. Possible side effects are tenderness at the injections sight, small bruising, short term headache. If any adverse events occur, they will occur within the 1st week and will usually go away in 7-10 days.
